Christmas is almost upon us and plans for our 'Christmas in the City' promotion are well underway. We are collaborating with the City Mission to launch Christmas on Saturday 28th November.
This will be a fun day for families to come in and see Santa punt down the Ōtākaro Avon River, from Margaret Mahey Playground right down to The Terrace, where the City Mission will then launch their spectacular 10m tall engineered tree. This is no ordinary tree and will add a real spectacle to our city over the festive season.
You will be able to follow Santa along the gorgeous Avon Otakaro Promenade from Margaret May Playground right to the Bridge of remembrance and we will have choirs and Elves all along the pathway to help guide and entertain you along the way.
Jason Gunn will be our MC for the launch event who is sure to entertain you. Once the tree has been launched, Santa will then tram down to The Crossing where the children will be able so go and see him. There will be more Elves, Choirs, Face Painting and street entertainment all along City Mall to make the day something for the people of Christchurch to come in and enjoy. And don't forget the Ballantynes Christmas window which will be open for viewing.
Santa's Procession starts from:
10.30am: New Regent Street - Santa will arrive by Tram and will walk across to Margaret Many Playground
11am: Santa will hop onto the Gondola and start punting down the Avon Otakaro River towards the Bridge of Remembrance
12pm: The Christchurch City Mission will launch their awesome 10 meter tall Christmas Tree
12.15pm: Santa will pop onto the Tram and make his way down to The Crossing where he the children will be able to let him know what they want for Christmas.
The Fun and Entertainment will continue on through the afternoon to around 3pm so make sure you come in and help us celebrate launching Christmas in the city.
