CHCH Central Unwrapped: Kendall Tompkins

As floor manager at Mecca on High St, Kendall Tompkins loves being in the CBD with the fresh air, blue sky, people and everything going on. We chatted to her about the city's hot spots:

Kendall Tompkins has worked in the CBD for three years. As floor manager at Mecca, she interacts with customers, gets to play with products, and aims to make every customer look and feel their best. Previously she worked at Northlands Mall, so coming into the CBD was very different. Now, she says she couldn’t go back to a mall environment - it’s so much nicer being in the CBD with the fresh air, blue sky, people and everything going on.

Where do you eat and drink in the CBD?

For lunch I often get something from the Fresh Choice deli, and then eat it outside in the sun on High Street. I’m coeliac, there are some amazing options for me that aren’t too expensive either. As a team we love Riverside, after work sometimes some of us will go and get ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s! Amazonita is great for drinks and the gluten free laksa from Hawker & Roll is one of my favourite meals.

Shut the Front Door, H&M homewares. Superette for the boys and Moochi for mum.

What about for your Christmas outfit?

Seed or Decjuba!

What’s your secret spot for some time out?

Just sitting on the grass by the Bridge of Remembrance - bliss.

Where do you like to spend time with friends and family?

A walk around Botanic Gardens after grabbing a coffee from Ilex Cafe. I love walking around Hagley Park, and around the city with the dog.

Home Alone and The Polar Express

What’s your favourite part of the Christmas meal?

Dessert! A good gluten free trifle, so gluten free sponge and custard... And meringues.

Events you’re looking forward to?

The Rollickin’ dog walks, they’re so cute! Often have hundreds of dogs come out for them.

How do you get around the CBD?

My partner drops me off usually, and then I Lime or walk around.

What is your Christmas wish for the Central City?

I would love the clothing brand Kookai to open a store! That would make my December. I wish for the vibrancy and atmosphere to continue, and for people to enjoy themselves.
