CHCH Central Unwrapped: Sean and Bekah

Bekah and Sean are the branch managers for Cashel St’s Hallensteins/Glassons superstore. They were both born and bred in Canterbury, went straight to their respective brands from high school, and have each been with the company for 6 years. That’s where the similarities stop (until we found out about their favourite Christmas film).

Bekah

Tell us about the Central location?

Bekah: As soon as I found out the city was opening a Glassons, I knew it had to be me. I made a scrapbook for my interview of my journey with Glassons, got the job and have been here ever since - which was 3 years in November! We’ve grown a lot, I currently have about 14 staff. When we first opened it was like a construction site, just us and a tonne of builders! Foot traffic has increased and it’s amazing seeing where we are now from where we were three years ago.

Sean: I came to the city store as a tailor consultant, and I became branch manager in February this year. I love it, it’s fantastic, I have 7 great staff.

What are your favourite places to eat and drink?

Bekah: Every morning me and the team meet at Arbo for a coffee or a hot chocolate, we can’t start the day without that! We love Amazonita for lunch or for team drinks (love a raspberry and coke!) we love the decor in there. It’s amazing to have the Riverside Market open too.

Sean: I’m a coffee snob, there’s a cafe called Pilgrim just around on Lichfield St where I get my small flat white, sometimes my quad shot flat white if I’m feeling a bit tired! The best thing about it is that the guys are so lovely, you can go in there and they’ll be debating conspiracy theories or something and you can just join. I’ve been going there since they opened, and on their coffee cards every 50 coffees you get a free keep cup - I’ve redeemed 10 keep cups!! Burger Burger is great for food.

Mecca

Where do you buy presents or go shopping?

Bekah: Mecca has goodies for my sister or friends, and then Superette for jewellery. And I spend my whole pay at Glassons on clothes for myself!

Sean: Ballantynes is always a good time because you’ve got your classic stuff downstairs but then Contemporary Lounge upstairs with streetwear. Infinite Definite have great clothes and such quality brands as well as cool accessories.

Infinite Definite

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

Bekah: Love Actually! Christmas tradition for my whole family to sit down and watch it.

Sean: I’ve seen Love Actually twice already in the past month….

Any Christmas traditions that you look forward to?

Bekah: Baked ham.

Sean: Baked ham, but I’m going to New York for Christmas this year and I have my fingers crossed for a white Christmas!

What is your Christmas wish for the Central City?

Bekah: It’s amazing how we’re continuing to grow and develop, and becoming such a community. So I wish for positive energy and love into continuing that growth!

Sean: Free parking.
